My Little Treasures Album

I wonder if you are like me and have lots of little things around the home that are special to you in any way. Not necessarily of an monetary value but not the less great treasures
I have decided to make a catalogue of mine for future generation and being a scrapbooker what better way than to give each item a layout page of its own.
I have made the Album too as I wanted it to be small just 6x6 and it needed to be something unique

I have so far done three pages, the first being one of the cross stitch pictures that John did, this is my favourite one of his done on fine evenweave linen with single threads so it is very delicate in appearance.

This next one was done for the SLYMI challenge this week which was to scrap using Something Old, new, borrowed and blue
the something old is this box which was given to me by one of my grandparents when I was a young girl

I have journalled about it under the photo mat which I hinged onto the layout with these little hinges

The something new is the patterned paper which I only bought yesterday. Something blue, the mat for the photos and also the fibre has blue in it. Something borrowed is the amber charm from a necklace.

I didn't realise that doing a small layout like this would prove so difficult, but most embellishments are made for standard size layouts 12"x12" and even 8"x8" are not too bad but getting enough information and decoration onto a 6"x6" is much more tricky. In the past when I have done this size I have done it digitally and of course you can make the embellishments to fit that size. Still I love a challenge so am enjoying sourcing this one out

I wanted to use one of this month's kits from Total papercraft the BoBunny one and I found one of the first photos taken of Daniel that I hadn't already scrapped

I took a Pencil Line sketch as my inspiration No. 92

Sweet Baby Girl Layout

I saw a challenge Thursday for an all white layout and took up the gauntlet. This one is of my daughter the photos were taken in 1971.
I didn't want the journalling to show on the front so made a little card for it.
It was quite tricky to get a decent photo of the layout; I never realised that taking a pure white picture could be so difficult especially as there is plenty of texture here.

Here is the journalling

Freedom Layout

The SLYMI challenge for this week is Independance, this had me puzzled as to what to do for some time, until someone put a layout of their child camping, this reminded me of our caravan which we used so much going out practically every other weekend.

People watching

I just love watching children at play, especially when their parents are otherwise engaged in talking to friends.
In Starbucks the other day was a little lad of about 18 months playing with a little toy , not content to just play with it on the floor, he was poking it through the bars of the chair his mother was sitting on, as it pushed into her back she moved slightly and the toy fell on the floor, the little lad grinned from ear to ear, picked it up and began the process all over again, still the mother just kept on talking hardly noticing what he was doing but he was having such fun.

All Dolled Up Layout

Isn't it exciting when you find something from your past that you have completely forgotten about?
I have been looking through photo slides that were taken back in the 1960 when transparencies were the thing. What a lot of photos I took even then. Most of them are of places and so not that interesting to do layout of but some are of family, of myself and of John and of our cat Beauty.
In amongst these I found two photos, one of John and I and one of my parents, taken at a wedding. So I had to suss out who's wedding it was. Well as they were both taken in the same place it had to be a family member getting married as my parents and I didn't really share the same friends. It wasn't my brothers as mum's outfit was not the same. That really only left my cousin Roy, so finding some photos of that wedding, discovering that the ground was very wet (as it was in the photos of us) I have deduce that it must be the one.
I do know for a fact that mum and I made our own outfits, hence the title.

Love you Rudi Layout

The weekly challenge on UKScrappers is set by different people each week and I usually try to do it. This week's challenge set by a team was to scrap using 'Love' as the theme, to incorporate pearls and something recycled.
I thought my cat Rudi would make a good subject because I really love that animal, so I tried to catch him, but I am sure he realised what I was trying to do and kept just out of my reach. I nearly gave up and used an old photo of him and me, but didn't like the fact that my hair was grey and not the vibrant ginger it is now.
So waiting until he was lulled into a false sense of security I managed to pick him up, balance my camera on the mantle shelf and take a photo, or two or three, well I did eventually get one I was reasonable pleased with and here is the layout to prove it.

For the recycled bit of the challenge I used a little cat broach

Cyber Crop

I have been directed to another UK scrapbooking site called Scrap Stars and they had a Cyber Crop (CC) this weekend and I managed to do three paper layouts and one Digital, which was good

This one won me a prize which was brilliant. There is a lot of stitching in this and took quite some time to do but well worth it

This one also won a prize but for the life of me I don't see why as it really was put together very quickly and not, in my opinion very well.

and finally the digital one. This photo was originally a transparency from 1965, our honeymoon. I had this and others put onto a CD so that I could scrap them, the only trouble is that the colour is so bad now faded and gone blue that I have had to change them into black and white. Some I have been able to enhance the colour but with difficulty. Still I am pleased with this one as a black & white photo

MYO Album

In Scrapbook Inspiration this month was an article to make you own albums using the ring binder mechanism which gave me an idea, I had a deep A5 ring binder so I added mounting board to the covers by sticking them on with carpet double sided tape. then covered it all in material padded out with wadding added a ribbon on the front cover for decoration. I now have a unique 8x8 album for my layouts of my new grandson-to-be. I will make a 12x12 one as well for his layouts and one with different material suitable for Daniel now that he is two.

The Wonders of Modern Technology Digital Layout

I have been doing mainly paper layouts lately and was beginning to forget how to do a digital one, but this week's challenge on UKScrappers was the perfect opportunity to do another digi one.
The challenge was to scrap a celebration, use squares and stars, blue and birds and leave plenty of 'white' space (white space being an area with nothing on but not necessarily white)
I had such a lovely thing to do for the celebration with these 4D images of my new grandson to be

Newly Weds & On top of the World Layouts

I have been going through my transparencies that I took in the 60s and found some of John and I when we were first married several of them I have had put onto a CD so that I can scrap them.
On top of the world was done for the SLYMI challenge in which we had to use needle and/or thread, I have stitched the hills with zigzag stitch on the sewing machine using it with different widths. I am rather pleased with the effect of the torn and stitched papers for they echo the photo quite nicely.

My shirt's too big Layout

Helen has just emailed me some really lovely photos of Daniel so have done a layout and written the journalling in the form of verse

Throwing stones in the lake
You get soaking wet
No dry shirt to put on
So take Dad's off his back

Where's Danny's hands
Disappeared up the sleeves
Hidden under the shirt
is Danny's feet.

Interesting Things Layout

I sent Daniel some little cars for his second birthday and Helen sent me this photo of him opening the parcel, apparently his remarks when he saw the cars was "Interesting things". Well I just had to scrap the photo with that as the title.

O Perfect Day Layout

Well I think I must be slipping because I haven't done a layout for about a week. I think that the weather has had something to do with that as it has been unbearably hot and adding that heat to the hot flushes has made me feel really unwell, yesterday I was near to tears with it. But today the weather has got a lot cooler and there has been a lovely breeze all day which has kept me sane and given me my energy back. So this afternoon I scrapped this for the SLYMI challenge

A place for me to put the pictures of layouts I have done that I am pleased with, to put in the poems I write and to add snippets of things that have caught my eye
